Setting Up MetaMask

MetaMask is the most popular Ethereum wallet. Let's set it up safely.

Step 1: Download

ONLY download from official sources:

- metamask.io

- Chrome Web Store (by MetaMask)

- Firefox Add-ons (by MetaMask)

⚠️ NEVER download from ads or random links - fake versions steal funds!

Step 2: Create New Wallet

1. Click 'Create a new wallet'

2. Create a strong password (this only locks the app locally)

3. IMPORTANT: Write down your Secret Recovery Phrase

Step 3: Secure Your Recovery Phrase

Your 12-24 word phrase IS your wallet. Anyone with it controls your funds.

DO:

- Write it on paper (multiple copies)

- Store in separate secure locations

- Consider a fireproof safe or safety deposit box

- Use a metal backup for fire/water protection

DON'T:

- Screenshot it

- Store in cloud/email/notes app

- Share with anyone EVER

- Enter it on any website

Step 4: Verify Your Phrase

MetaMask will ask you to confirm some words. This proves you saved it correctly.

Step 5: Add Networks (Optional)

MetaMask defaults to Ethereum mainnet. To add other networks:

1. Click network dropdown

2. 'Add Network'

3. Use chainlist.org to find official network details
